Case Study: The Restoration of Seaton Hall
Seaton Hall is an ancient manor house with over 1000 years of recorded history. Located in private gardens and grounds on the edge of the fishing village of Staithes on the Yorkshire Heritage Coast and heather clad North Yorkshire Moors.
The house is set in a walkers paradise with cliff tops and deeply wooded ravines to explore. The highest cliffs in England, harbour, bays and beaches are a mile away.
Listed in the Domesday Book, Seaton Hall is a Manor House with part moat and medieval stew pond. Built on earlier foundations. Survived as a heather thatched L shaped Manor with early Tudor eye catcher Gable wall and Crow Stepped Gables until rebuilt in 1860 and again in 2002 onwards. The birthplace and home of Sir Francis Bigod in 1507 - one of the leaders of the Pilgrimage of Grace.
